| The Challenge |
Magellan's joined Warp 9's family of successful e-commerce clients in early 2004. Before deploying their site on the Warp 9 Internet Commerce System (ICS), Magellan's invested heavily in search engine optimization (SEO) programs. Through concentrated keyword and search engine submission programs, Magellan's was able to get top ranking on popular search engines such as Google. The more money they spent, the harder they worked at it, the more consistent the results were. Despite being happy with the results, Magellan's wanted to see if Warp 9 could do better.

Warp 9 knows that search engines such as Google have complex algorithms that determine the relevance of a website pages. Most of the search engine traffic comes from natural search engines like Google. In fact over 50% of ALL search results on the Internet are from Google. Search results from AOL, Yahoo and Netscape are basically Google generated results. So if you're going to spend any time and money on search engine optimization, Google is the first engine to focus on.
A Google search result is only as strong as the format of the page, the URL and external links. If you have an affiliate marketing program with many websites pointing to your site, you've solved one part of the problem but it doesn't guarantee you top ranking on Google. You need to apply "best practices" to your page format and URL so your site is "search engine friendly." A page with keywords appearing on the page title and URL will always get better ranking than pages that don't. Many e-commerce engines produce very cryptic URLs with poorly formatted page content that makes them search engine "unfriendly."

Even common words such as "travel shaver", "wrinkle-free shirt", "travel pant", and "big shirt" appear as NUMBER ONE on Google out of billions of pages.
Magellan's liked the fact that Warp 9's methodology was not to cheat the search engines, but rather to use sound understanding of the search engine process to make the content more available to the search engine spiders.
